Betty was born October 17, 1927 in Weyauwega, Wisconsin, the fifth of nine children of Charles R. and Esther (Gruening) Boone. She spent most of her childhood in Waupaca, Wisconsin at their home on 5th and Lake Streets with seven of her brothers and sisters. Betty graduated from Waupaca High School in 1946.
Betty loved dancing the “boogie-woogie” at the Casino with her brother, where she was known as “Boogie Boone”. After High School, Betty moved to Appleton, Wisconsin to work at AAL/Thrivent. Soon after, she met and married Gerald L. Walsh on June 20,1949 in the Priest’s study at a Church in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Betty joined Jerry in Appleton and became a lifelong homemaker and Mother to four children. Betty and Jerry had 51 years together. Betty was a homebody by nature. She loved to clean and kept a spotless house. She enjoyed cribbage games, as well as neighborhood coffee klatches and bowling with her friends Darlene Roehl and Barb Schoenke. Betty loved butterflies and having her hair done. She was her children’s biggest cheerleader and lived vicariously through them. In later years after she lost her vision, books on tape gave her countless hours of enjoyment.
Betty is survived by her four children – Cathy A. (Pastor William) Farr; Brian G. (Aggie) Walsh; Kay E. Westlund; and David R. (Amy) Walsh. She has eight Grandchildren – Anna Thomasson; Anthony (Kim) Walsh; Tanya (David) Carter; Andrew Walsh; Alex (Kara) Walsh; Brent (Jami) Westlund; Branden (special friend Macy Sarbacker) Westlund; and Taylor (special friend Brittany Bechard) Westlund.
