Evelyn Anita Gelbke, age 99, passed away on Monday, March 12. She has now joined her loving husband Carl and many family and friends who passed before her in eternal peace. Evelyn was born on December 28, 1918, to Frank and Johanna Caffery and was the firstborn of two daughters.
Evie and Carl Gelbke were united in marriage in 1941 and lived at East South River Street their entire married life. There, Evelyn was a wonderful wife, mother, homemaker, and gardener. She had the “midas” touch when it came to growing things from seeds or straggely plants into something that would hold our eyes in awe! Her passion was antiquing and shopping. It was heard many times by those shopping with her at T.J. Maxx,” I wish I could just sleep here and get up to continue shopping throughout the night! Kind of like a pajama party”! Evie at one time made beautiful candlestick lamps out of old lamp parts which were much sought after by customers around the country under her brand “Candle Glo Lamp Studio”.
Evie is survived by her Son, David, his wife, Gretchen of Egg Harbor, and their children Stephanie and Joe Colling of Appleton and Erick D Gelbke of Whitefish, Montana. A daughter, Carla and husband Tom Crabb of Madison, Wi. And their sons, Adrian and Heidi Crabb and Zachary Crabb also of Madison. She is further survived by great-grandchildren, Chelsea Colling Drusch, and her husband Greg, Reed Joseph Colling and Mitchell David Colling, Isaiah, Kimana, Declan, Eviana and Levi Crabb, great-great-grandchildren Landon and Lincoln Drusch.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister, Ruth Kray. Evie’s husband and best friend Carl A. Gelbke who left us in 2008 is happily holding her in his arms once again. All of the siblings of Evie’s and Carl’s will all rejoice in welcoming her to eternity.
We would like to thank Evie's friends for their undying friendship and love they shared for many years. Ruthie Brantmeir, Donna Ehlert, Susie Morrison, Katie Swanson, Lori Gelbke, and Katie and Mark Ehlert.
