Janet “Jan” Cozzuol (nee Nardi), age 72, of Appleton, formerly of Iron River, MI, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, July 7, 2019, after a three-year battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Jan was born on November 27, 1946 in Stambaugh, MI to the late Albert and Helen (Metros) Nardi. She graduated with the class of 65 at Iron River High School. In 1968, Jan was united in marriage to John Cozzuol in Iron River. The couple have enjoyed over 50 years together. In 1970 after graduating college, she and John moved to Appleton. Jan was a full-time mother until the late 80’s when she started her position at Sheltered Activity Center, now known as Valley Packaging, as a Case Manager. While there, she impacted many peoples lives, some of whom were still keeping in touch with her and sending Christmas cards after her retirement. Jan had a core group of “compadres” that she loved to travel and spend time with. They traveled to many “warm” places in the Caribbean and Mexico over the years. She had a green thumb and was always surrounded in the summer with flowers and plants. In addition, she was a great cook – specializing in both Italian and Polish food. Her food specialties pasties, cappelletti and ravioli, and superb winter soups of all flavors were enjoyed by our family. She had a keen eye for crafts or all kinds and enjoyed making table and wall arrangements with dried flowers, wreaths and candles. Jan was very active at the YMCA and was a longtime member at St. Bernard Catholic Church.
Jan will be missed by her husband John Cozzuol, Appleton; and two sons: Steven Cozzuol of Neenah and Christopher (Hana) Cozzuol, and daughter Alicia of Sapporo, Japan, and is further survived by her sister Sue (Tim) Olson, Greenville; stepmother Carmen Nardi; stepsister Christine (Carl) Anderson; 2 stepbrothers: Bruce (Kathy) Sartorelli and Mark (Jan) Sartorelli. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Helen Nardi, and father and mother-in-law Jack and Rose Cozzuol.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Thursday, July 11, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine St. Appleton, with Father Jude Egbuna officiating. Visitation of relatives and friends begins at the church from 10 am until 11:15 am, with a luncheon to follow after the service. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), 3 International Dr. Suite 200, Rye Brook, NY 10573. or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the oncology nurses and staff at the ThedaCare Medical Center (AMC -7th floor), and ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center, and her oncology doctors, especially Dr. Conkright, for his compassionate care given to Jan during this difficult time.
Sweetie your light has dimmed,
Your pain is gone,
You are drawn to the light,……….
That is brighter than all the stars in the sky,
The divine light draws your soul to the God of our hearts,
Godspeed my love,
