Marian Carol McHugh Behrent, age 83 of Appleton, Wisconsin passed away on January 28, 2018, She was born on July 15, 1934 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Daughter of the late Adolph and Marie (Parker) Hanus Arnold. After graduating High School in 1952, she was employed as a private secretary to the Assistant Research Director at American Can. She married Ralph E. McHugh in 1953 and they had three daughters, Bonnie, Cynthia, and Michelle before the marriage ended in 1969. She married Arthur Behrent on August 7, 1971 and they enjoyed 27 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1998.
Through the years Marian was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, she was very active with her children’s activities, in addition to being an avid volunteer for many organizations. Marian also was highly accomplished in the business world. Her accomplishments consist of: being an active member of the Jaycettes for over 10 years, during that time she received the C.A.R.O.L. award in 1966 and was appointed President in 1975. She was the Credit Manager for McCain–Gloudemans for over 16 years, and active in the Appleton Credit Exchange. She also served as Treasurer for the 1952 Appleton High School (West) graduating class Reunion Committee from graduation to 2017.
Marion was a very caring and giving person. She was a caregiver for her husband Arthur in addition to other family members for many years of her adult life. She took into her home and heart and cared for her stepfather William Arnold, and her Great Aunt Doris Kohl. She also cared for others in so many ways: her sister Helen Tummett, her granddaughter Jessica Schultz, and her sister-in-law Jean Behrent. She helped those who could not do for themselves. Through her selflessness and giving nature Marian helped people all throughout her life. Anyone who entered her home was treated like family and were given a full belly and lots of love. Marian also enjoyed cooking, baking, and home decorating, which included painting, varnishing, and staining her entire home.
Marian unfortunately fought a long hard battle against cancer. She suffered from cancer in her breast, brain, and chest lymph nodes. Her strength and willingness not to give up was extraordinary and her determination was never ending. Her faith in God helped give her strength.
Marian will be greatly missed but never forgotten by her significant other, Gerald A. Drews of 19 years, her Daughters: Bonnie (John) Todryk of Menasha, Cynthia (Andre) Van Belkom of Keshena, and Michelle (Mark) McHugh-Wiley of Appleton, her Son-in-law: Doug (Debbie Reinke) Gerlach of Menasha. Grandchildren: Ricky (Kathleen) Schultz of Menasha, Jessica Schultz of Menasha, John Todryk Jr. of Menasha, Christina (Timothy) Rappel of Appleton, Andre’ Jered (Thuy Nygren) Van Belkom of Mesa, Arizona, Duston (Lilliana Cruz Lopez) Van Belkom of Green Bay, and Bob Gerlach of Salt Lake City. Great Grandchildren: Natus and Arabella El-ahrairah of Appleton, Marcus and Mason Schultz of Menasha, Asher and Drake Gerlach of Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by her sister Helen Tummett.
A Funeral service for Marian will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday February 10, 2018 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 213 E. Wisconsin Avenue, with Father Ryan Stark officiating. Visitation will take place the night before, Friday, February 9, 2018, at Brettschneider Trettin Nickel Funeral Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume the next day at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
