Michael J. Hein, 68, of Appleton, son, brother, uncle, friend was unexpectedly called to his forever home August 23, 2018. The first-born son to Florian and Rita Hein on September 27, 1949. He graduated from Xavier High School in 1968. He attended Salvation Seminary in St. Nazianz in 1965 and 1966. Michael went on to make his way through college, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from UW La Crosse in 1974 and then a Master of Science in Education from UW River Falls in 1987. He settled down in the Houston, TX area where he worked for the Harris County School District until his retirement in 2011. Michael returned to Appleton to be with his family. Michael loved to play golf, fish, watching the Packers and listen to music. He treasured his music and stamp collections that he said he started as a teenager.
Michael is survived by his 10 brothers and sisters: Edie, Appleton; Dick (Dar), Appleton; Dave, Appleton; Cathy Fietzer, Appleton; Jean (Bruce) Carow, Suring; Jim (Lori), Neenah; Joe (Jiyon), Columbia, SC; Linda, Appleton; Terri (Dan) Meyer, Fox Crossing; Mary, Green Bay. Many nieces and nephews, Uncles Jerry (Mary) Hein, Sturgeon Bay; Merlin (Ann) Hein, Appleton; Bob Ferron, Appleton; Aunts Alice (Jerry) Plog, Green Bay; Lorrie DuChateau, Little Chute; Mary (Walter) McCanna, New York.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Florian and Rita, paternal grandparents Martin and Helen Hein, maternal grandparents Clarence and Elizabeth DuChateau, aunts and uncles.
A Prayer Service will take place at 7 pm on Friday, August 31, at the Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Friday from 5 pm until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
