Thomas J. Powell, age 60, of Sherwood, passed away on Friday, December 14th, 2018 at the UW Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born on January 20th, 1958 in Moline, Illinois, to Douglas and Patricia (Stevens) Powell. Tom grew up with two sisters, Penny (David Clemmons) and Joanne (Robert Franco), and a brother, John. He graduated from Moline High School in 1976 and eventually received an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Spartan School of Aeronautics in 1983. Tom married Wendy Miller on May 20th, 1989, and had one son, Thomas (Tommy) Powell. Tom started work at Mississippi Valley Airlines in 1983 and moved to the Appleton area in 1990 to work for Air Wisconsin, where he spent more than 30 years, moving from an A&P Mechanic up through the ranks to Manager of Quality Assurance. After working for a short time as Director of NDT at Spartan (his alma mater), he went back to Air Wisconsin to be a CASS Specialist.

Tom had a love for music and spent most of his life sharing his music with others. Nicknamed the “Trombone Man”, he was a beautiful singer and musician, enjoying any performance whether it be in a concert hall, on stage at a gig, or for anyone sitting around a campfire. Other interests included sailing, tinkering in his garage, and fixing anything when someone asked him for help.

Tom was preceded in death by his Parents, and Sister Penny Clemmons. He is survived by his wife Wendy, his son Tommy, his siblings Joanne and John, and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 12th at Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Visitation with Family will start at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research. www.stopsarcoidosis.org

A gentle soul with a huge heart, Tom Powell will be missed by the multitude of people he touched and will live on in the memories he made.
