William “Bill” Rohloff, 75, of Appleton, WI passed away in the early morning hours of December 30th at ManorCare Health Services in Appleton. Born in 1943, Bill entered the Marine Corps at the age of 20 and proudly served as a machine gunner from 1963 to 1966. His time in service included a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1964-1965.
Later in life he was known around the neighborhood as someone who was always willing to help a person in need. Bill loved to tinker and could fix just about anything mechanical. Anytime his friends needed a hand he could always be counted on to show up with his tool kit and a joke or a story.
Bill also loved nature and animals. Whether he was transplanting trees to and from his property up north, hunting with one of his beloved German Shorthair dogs, fishing with his wife, Nancy, or just taking a short walk to cover his neighbor’s rhubarb, Bill spent as much time as he could outdoors.
After retiring Bill also spent free time volunteering for the food shelf in Appleton picking up donations from local business and delivering them for distribution.
Bill is survived by his wife Nancy, his daughter Dawn, brothers Thomas (Debi) Mark (Julie) James (Lissa), 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 6 nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cancer Center at Ascension NE Wisconsin St. Elizabeth Hospital and at ManorCare for all care and compassion that was shown to Bill.
Thanks also to Bill’s friends and neighbors for all their love and support.
Per Bill’s wishes no formal services will be held. A celebration of life will be held for the family at a later date.
