Agnes Vandenberg - loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, left this world on August 24, 2022, at the age of 97 while living at Renaissance Assisted Living. Agnes was born on October 27th, 1924, to the late Henry and Mary (Van Groll) Vanden Boogard on a family farm near Freedom, WI. Her first employment was at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a nurse’s aide. Later she met Elmer Vandenberg before World War II. Elmer volunteered for service in the Navy and after his return from overseas duty they were married on May 9th, 1946. Elmer preceded her in death as did her daughter Sandra Kasten and six siblings. Agnes had a wonderful sense of humor and was best described as a gentle, lovely lady.
For much of her life she was a homemaker and wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She loved playing cards with friends and family – especially sheepshead and cribbage.
She is survived by 3 sons: Jerry (Tara) Vandenberg, Tom (Yvonne) Vandenberg, and Dennis (Cheri) Vandenberg; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 am on Wednesday, August 31st, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 213 E. Wisconsin Ave. Appleton, with Father Ryan Starks officiating. Friends may visit at the church on Wednesday from 9 am until 10:45 am. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
