On Wednesday May 11, 2022, heaven gained the most beautiful soul. Barbara Ann Zuleger (Schrimpf), born August 8, 1946, passed away at the age of 75 after a courageous fight against cancer. She stayed strong and positive and gave it her all for 4 years so she could enjoy more time with her family and friends. She has now found peace.

Barb will be greatly missed by her daughter Barb (“Pookie”) Carew and son-in-law Ted Carew, her 4 grandkids who she loved so very much, Kendra, John, Meg, and Thomas, her siblings Lucy Swiecichowski, David Schrimpf (Dorrie) and Vicki Schrimpf. In Heaven, she is reunited with family and friends who have passed including her husband Ken Zuleger, her mom Lucille Schrimpf, and her dad Edward Schrimpf.

Barb (mom, Nana, Mrs. Z) was a kind lady who loved her family and adored her grandkids and loved her grandpups, Lexi and Auggie. Some memories that will always remind them of Nana are waffles with peanut butter, baNANA bread, board games, Marvel Movies, her famous rollups on Christmas Eve, shopping trips and lunch for their birthdays, angel food candy and candles, apple picking, pumpkin picking, handing out Halloween candy, cutting down Christmas trees and decorating Christmas cookies. Let’s not forget the tons of laughs Nana provided whether she realized it or not!

Barb will miss time spent with her family at the sibling dinners that became a tradition she looked forward to, and the long visits at Copper Rock with her sisters. There are also many memories of shopping trips throughout the years.

Barb recently retired in February of 2022 from ThedaCare where she was secretary to the pharmacy. She always said she worked with a great group of people and had an appreciation for what went on behind the scenes. She was a big part of making things go smoothly and took pride in her work. She decided to keep working the past few years while going through treatment to keep her mind busy. She cherished the kindness and friendship of her co-workers.

Thank you so much to all the doctors and nurses at ThedaCare Cancer Center, ThedaCare Hospice and Cherry Meadows who helped Barb through this 4-year journey. Your kindness and hard work are appreciated!

Thank you to Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Home for guiding us during the planning process and keeping it as simple as possible.

Thank you to The Mission Church for providing a welcoming place for us to gather and worship the past several years. Barb’s faith and her relationship with God was an important part of her life. Thank you to Pastor Shawn Whitworth for visiting with Barb and praying for her and her family on her last day.

Her family is having a “sweet and simple” service to take time to remember and celebrate Barb, who herself was so sweet. Visitation and service will be held at:

A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. at The Mission Church, 314 N Appleton St, Appleton, WI 54911 on Saturday, May 21, 2022. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. until the time of service.  Food will be provided after the service for those who would like to stay.  Parking available behind church with back entrance.

If you would like to bring a penny with you, you can add it to her “Pennies from Heaven” jar that her family gave her shortly after she started her health journey. During this time, they would find pennies often and in odd places. They would give them to her as a reminder that she had angels above watching over her.

God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so He put his arms around you, and whispered, “Come to Me”. With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we love you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
