Delmar A. Schuh passed away peacefully on December 25, 2021, at his residence. Del was born in Kimberly, WI, on November 15th, 1930, to John & Othelia Schuh. On August 16th, 1952, Del married the love of his life, Joan M. Pratt at St. Joseph’s Church in Appleton. Joan passed away on February 19th, 2007.
Del was a graduate of Holy Name Grade School and Kimberly High School. He then graduated from U.W. Oshkosh with a B.S. in liberal arts in 1952. After serving his country during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1954, he graduated from U.W. Madison in 1959 with an M.S. degree in educational administration. During the Korean conflict, Del was stationed in Seoul, Korea.
He began his career in education as a teacher of English and History at Denmark High School in January of 1956. He transferred to McKinley Jr. High in Appleton in September of 1956 and began a 35 year career in the Appleton Public School System. He taught at Mckinley Jr. High from 1956 to 1958. He then moved to the new James Madison Jr. High from 1958 to 1967. He was then at Einstein Jr. High as a teacher and assistant principal from 1967 to 1969. In January of 1970, he became the principal of Wilson Jr. High School and served in that position until his retirement in 1992.
Del was a charter member of St. Bernadette Parish, having served on the building committee of the newly formed parish in the early 60’s. He was a long time member of the Appleton Noon Lions Club and served on many district and state committees. He served on many educational committees on both the local and state level.
Survivors include his children: Greg, (Pam) Schuh, Appleton; Gary (Lisa) Schuh, Neenah; David (special friend Robin) Schuh, Appleton; Dawn (Thad) Kluge, Dale; Denise (special friend Jeff) Baugh, Appleton; His grandchildren: Aaron (Bobbi) Schuh, Ashley (Chris) Schmalz, Stephanie (Kirk) Boettcher, Miranda Schuh, Lindsey (Travis) Wohlrabe, John Mentz, Kayla (Ethan) Jeffers, Tina Mentz, Kaitlyn Ehaney, Kelly Ehaney, and Hunter Kluge; thirteen great-grandchildren: Bailey Schuh, Nicholas Boettcher, Stetsen Ebben, Connor Schuh, Emma Boettcher, Kendel Schmalz, Daylynn Schuh, Nolan Schmalz, Lillian Schuh, Harper Holley, Ivory Mentz, Brixton Wohlrabe, and Stella Mentz.
Del is also survived by a sister; Evelyn Guckenberg, Neenah; and brother Msgr. John Schuh, Kimberly.
Del was preceded in death by his parents; his baby son, Robert; his brother-in-law, Peter Guckenberg Sr.; his infant sister, Virginia; his brother, Kenneth; his sister-in-law Johanna; his son-in-law, Jamie; and many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and very good friends.
The mass of resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr., Appleton, on Thursday, December 30, 2021 with Msgr. John Schuh as celebrant and Pastor Joe Doerner of St. Bernadette Parish as concelebrant. Friends may call at the church from 9 A.M. until the time of service. Del will be laid to rest next to the love of his life at Highlands Memorial Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Del’s final wish for his children is to “love one another and band together in the practice of your faith until we see each other once again in God’s Kingdom.
