Donald L. Wenninger, age 83, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 8, 2021 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton, following a short illness.  Don was born on August 24, 1937 to the late Joseph and Adeline (Loewenhagen) Wenninger.  On May 17, 1958, Don was united in marriage to Carol Springstroh at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Freedom.  The couple enjoyed 49 years together until Carols passing in 2007.  He worked at Consolidated Papers for many years.  In Don’s younger years he enjoyed bowling.  He also enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball.  Don helped start GFC Little League Baseball at Plamann Park with four teams and one diamond – the league grew over time to 650 kids and 6 diamonds.  Don was honored to have his name dedicated to the Plamann Park Ballparks after 35 years of coaching.  More than anything though, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his three children:  Joseph (Barbara) Wenninger, of Appleton and their children Amy (Philip) Sabee, Jennifer Delfosse, and Rachel (Benny) Rockweiler; Debra Wenninger, Greenville; and David Wenninger, Appleton and his children Tiffani, Meghan, and Austin Wenninger; 5 great grandchildren:  Mia, Jack, Molly, Kate and Olivia; 2 brothers-in-law:  Arlin (Janet) Springstroh, and Victor (Patricia) Springstroh; 6 sisters-in-law:  Gerda Kuba, Orla Schmidt, Nora Herman, Myrna (Ronald) Witt, Alice Riehl, and Judy Springstroh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ethel, 3 brothers-in-law:  Walter, John, and Lester Springstroh; and a sister-in-law, Melda Behle. 

Private family services were held.  Entombment at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Dr. Edward Szabo and the staff at Primary Care Associates of Appleton, the staff at the ICU and 7th floor at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton and to ThedaCare Hospice for the compassionate care given to Don.
