Donald J. “Don” Slavik passed away peacefully on March 30, 2022 at the age of 91. He was born to Edward and Loretta (Dimmer) Slavik in the back of his parents’ car in Sheboygan County. He was preceded in death by Sally (Croy) - the love of his life - and his wife of 60 years, his parents, and his brother Lawrence (Elaine).
He graduated from Port Washington High School in 1949. He was a member of the U.S. Army for two years and then graduated from Marquette University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. While in school he worked at various Milwaukee radio stations. After graduation he worked for the Westinghouse Corporation in their Appleton office until retirement.
Don was a long-standing member of the Elks Lodge. He held many positions locally and state-wide including Exalted Ruler of Lodge #337 and Wisconsin State President.
After retirement he and Sally travelled extensively including trips around the US, Europe, and Australia.
He is survived by his children: Donald (Cindy Barfknecht), Jonathan ”Jes” (Eileen Mullinaux), Laure Alwin (Todd), Daniel (Laura Van Cuyk), Ted (Vicki Papez), and Lisa Lambie (Kevin), and grandchildren: Joseph Lambie (Tammi), Samantha Jones-Dewall (Jake), Jonathan Slavik (Kate), Jennifer Spagnolia, Amy Reilly (Brandon), Katrina Slavik (Gary Shlahtichman), and Kailey Slavik, and 5 great-grandchildren: Kinsley, Grant, Erin, Michael, and Aiden.
There will be a visitation at Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel in Appleton on Thursday, April 7th, from 4 pm to 7 pm with an Elks Memorial Service at 6:30 pm. The funeral mass will be Friday, April 8th, starting at 1:30 p.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 Pine St., Appleton. Friends may visit the church on Friday from 11:30 am to 1:15 pm. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Saukville on Saturday, April 9th. The American Legion will be present for full military honors. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
