Obituary

Elsa Milagros Ruiz Ruscoe, loving mother of five children and grandmother to seventeen, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on Friday August 21, 2020.

Elsa is survived by her sister Alba Bates (Maury Bates); children: Kimberly (Walter) Burgo Jr., James Ruscoe Jr. (Dawn Lord), Elisa (Joseph) Tremblay, Raymond (Susan) Ruscoe, Willis Ruscoe (Marla Gilmore); grandchildren: Claire, Walter, Jerome, Joelle, Dean, Jeannine, Jacqueline, Daniel, Jourdain, Mary, Jonathan, Rachel, Joseph, Brandon, Julia, Jeanine and little Jimmy. She is predeceased by her parents Elisa and Raymond Ruiz and her late ex-husband James Ruscoe.

Elsa was born on February 6th, 1943 in Bronx, New York to Raymond and Elisa Ruiz. Elsa was a first generation U.S. citizen as her parents had recently immigrated from Puerto Rico. She grew up with her sister Alba in her father's bakery in New York City surrounded by friends and family. Elsa went to college at the University of Bridgeport where she met James Ruscoe. Her and Jim were married in 1962 and shortly after started their family in Norwalk, Connecticut. She had a dynamic career as a business owner and an accountant for both private business and Catholic Church entities while raising five children. Elsa also faithfully participated in the Secular Franciscan Order for 25 years while serving the church in a wide variety of ministries.

Elsa was a loving mother and grandmother who had so much pride in her family. She was devoted to supporting her children’s passions and often took them on as her own. Elsa loved the ocean and traveling, her favorite places being the Holy Land, Puerto Rico and Assisi. She was known as Nanny to her grandkids. Her involvement in their lives brought her so much joy where she loved participating in their tutoring, camping, sporting events, band concerts, graduations, and weddings. Her Catholic faith was a huge part of her life and community where she served the Lord volunteering as much as she could. She had a huge devotion to St. Francis of Assisi and Our Lady of Good Help. Nanny had the best stories and was always willing to share them. She was a great cook and was famous for her Puerto Rican cuisine. Elsa will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and all who knew her.
