Frank W. Sprister, age 98 passed away peacefully on December 27, 2020. He was born on November 7, 1922 son of the late Paul and Sarah (Niss) Sprister. Frank married Gertrude (Hughes) Sprister on July 27, 1946 and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2019. Gert was the love of his life and they enjoyed 72 years of marriage together.
Frank graduated from Appleton High School and served in the United States Navy from 1942 - 1946. After returning from service he began a career at Appleton Wire Works that lasted 42 years until his retirement.
Frank spent countless hours volunteering for several organizations in the Fox Valley including the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master and Fox Valley Technical School as a Board of Governors member. He was a devoted member of St. Therese Catholic Church where he ushered during Sunday mass and assisted in various other capacities over the years.
After retiring from Appleton Wire Frank became an avid golfer, playing four to five times a week until he turned 95. He was proud of the fact he that he walked when playing until he was 90 before needing a cart. Although he enjoyed hunting for golf balls more than birdies & pars, he loved the game, being outdoors and socializing.
Frank is survived by his children: James Sprister, David (Cris) Sprister, Steve (Mary) Sprister, Lou Rinehart, Kevin (Karen) Sprister, Lynn (Mike) Neely and Troy (Katie) Sprister. 11 Grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Sarah Sprister, wife Gertrude Sprister and siblings Roy (Marjorie) Sprister, Dorothy (Bart) Lewis, Carl (Odelia) Sprister, Ardella (Bill) Casper, Alice (Earl) Wiegand, Ilene Deltgen Techlin, and Margaret (Carl) Lecker.
