Obituary

Janice passed Monday, May 17th, 2021 after an extended illness surrounded by her loving family.

Janice was born February 14, 1937 in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan to Francis and Rhea (McCash) Champine.

Janice graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc Wi, in 1955. As a young person, Janice was a carhop at the A&W root beer stand and was employed at the Tinsel Factory in Manitowoc.

Janice married Maury Reed on October 29th, 1955 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. They enjoyed 65 happy years together. Janice gave life to nine children; Maurie (Wendy) Reed, Greg (Jean) Reed, Jim Reed, Lisa (Bill) Moede, Angie (fiancé Brian) Reed, Mike (Vickie) Reed, Julie Reed, Carey (Amy) Reed and Jennifer Reed; 27 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

After raising her children, she worked with Visiting Nurse. She was a long-standing member of St. Bernard Parish.

Janice loved to travel; especially to Colorado, with her favorite places being Estes Park and Telluride. She also loved to go camping with her family and friends. Janice was an avid rock collector and reader. She was well known at the Appleton Public Library. She loved to shop at Goodwill and other thrift stores. She was a baker of scones and fruit cakes for her family and friends. Janice made everyone she met feel like a member of her family. She made anyone she talked to feel like they were the only ones in the room. She loved to share stories about her family with others. Many called Janice fiercely independent. She loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Janice had a beautiful smile and will be deeply missed.

Janice is survived by her husband, Maury, and immediate family. She is also survived by her sister, Cheryl Ellerman, sister-in-law, Irene Champine, brother-in-law Ed (Marie Jo) Reed and sister-in-law Elaine (Phillip) Fischer, along with many nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Francis (Sonny) and Michael Champine and several brothers and sisters in law.

A heartfelt thank you to ThedaCare at Home Hospice, especially Christina, Jodi and Pa, for their tender care of our mother and helping us navigate through this difficult time.

Although she left us too soon, we knew she was never ours to keep; however, we take comfort in knowing that she passed seamlessly from life to life and is now our angel and advocate in heaven.
