Obituary

Jonelle Margaret (Grognet) Rausch, age 82, of Appleton, passed away at her home, on February 6, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.  Jonelle was born on April 24, 1939 to the late Wilton and Florence (Doherty) Grognet in Green Bay.  She married Edward Rausch on June 28, 1958.  Jonelle volunteered at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mackville where she helped with fish fry’s and making bread for the bake sale.   Her Catholic faith and the Blessed Virgin Mary were important to her.  She and Edward were members of the Cursillo in Christianity movement and served meals at the Fox Valley Homeless Shelter.

Being the mother of eight children Jonelle had a sincere passion for equal opportunity for girls.  She was one of the original founders of the GFC girls’ softball league at Plamann Park.  Jonelle demonstrated the value of independence and hard work to her family.  She took the Franciscan Sisters out in her car for driving lessons so they could experience their own sense of independence. She lived The Beatitudes through her ministry of taking those in need under her wing offering rides, pocket money, and friendship.

Jonelle had a playful side and could be the “cool” Mom with her children’s friends.  Everyone wanted to ride in her van for school field trips.  Most of all, she treasured time with her children and grandchildren for they meant the world to her.   They have numerous memories and funny stories to share about time spent with and caring for Grandma. It was a rare visit if you weren’t invited to play a game or two or three of cribbage.   She enjoyed quiet time playing solitaire on her iPad and singing along with Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra.  In her younger years she enjoyed dancing, roller skating, fishing with Rosie and Dad, playing Bingo, canning fruits and vegetables, and family camping trips.  She loved to travel. Her favorite destination was California to visit her beloved siblings.

Jonelle is survived by her children: Carol (Don) Rietveld, Roxane Rausch, Susan (Ryan) Burns, Mary (Ross) Renner, Dane (Daniel Sproull), Tim (Ann Stark-Rausch), and Anne Rausch; grandchildren: Michael Rietveld, Brigette (Andy) Grones, Phillip Rietveld, Tyler (Jesse Gitter) Moeller, Danielle (Ethan) Moeller, Elyse (DJ) Niesz, Sydnee (Travis Seehawer) Rausch, Fionna (Steph) Rausch, Jamie, Carlie and Corey Burns, Carine, Ayden and Corbyn Renner, Erin (Mackenzie Miller) Rausch, Eric and Timothy Rausch, Maddie and Johnnie Fischer, Makiah and Avery Nuutinen; great grandchildren Charlotte and Julia Grones; brother Ken (Beth) Grognet; brother-in-law Robert Rausch; sister-in-law Gwynne Grognet; and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; son Michael Edward Rausch; granddaughter Zoe Rausch; brothers: Dick (Pinky) Grognet, Bill Grognet and Tom Grognet; sister Janice Fish; sister-in-law Evelyn Rausch; Godson/Nephew Tom Rausch and her family’s best friend Rosie Kern.

A memorial service for Jonelle will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at SAINT EDWARD THE CONFESSOR OF MACKVILLE, N2926 WI-47, Appleton, WI 54913 with Father Walter Stumpf officiating.  Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass.  All who attend are REQUIRED to wear face coverings.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for Jonelle.
