Kevin J. Bowers, age 65, also known as “Chopper” and “KB,” passed away peacefully on Friday, March 26th, at Brewster Village in Appleton. Kevin was born in Little Chute on June 6, 1955 to the late Glen L. and Ann M. (Gallagher) Bowers. He attended Plamann School in Appleton where he met many life-long friends. When Agape opened group homes in Appleton, Kevin was one of the first residents. Kevin received care through Agape until 2001. Kevin was a dedicated employee at Valley Packaging for 40 years. On retirement in 2017, Kevin was thrilled to receive a trophy saying - “I Did It”.
Kevin enjoyed watching the Packers, Brewers, Badgers, and wrestling. He participated in Special Olympics where he excelled in basketball, swimming, and track. He loved to travel and visit family in Massachusetts and Florida, and while traveling he always went out of his way to meet the airline pilots. Kevin had great respect and appreciation for anyone in uniform and made sure to let them know it. His good friend Kris, or “Rocky” as he called her, helped him cross things off of his bucket list, such as riding in a helicopter, a hot air balloon, and on a Harley. He was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton and also attended United Methodist Church in New London also.
Kevin was full of life and always up for an adventure. Whenever you saw that twinkle in his eyes you knew he was going to be up to something, and it usually was quite funny. Kevin was a kind and compassionate soul always ready to give you a hug. Kevin had lots of friends and was loved by many. Kevin’s Gentleness, Kindness, and Sense of Humor are his legacy.
Kevin is survived by his brother, Tom (Peggy) Bowers and family, Menasha; three sisters: Kathy Mead and family of Florida, Pat Sewall and family of Larsen, and Gail Caple and family of Appleton; and many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his dear friend, Kris “Rocky” Schoenrock, Appleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers-in-law: Mike Mead, Ted Sewall, and Doug Caple; and his best friend David “Buckwheat” List.
