Laura McFarlane, 62, of Bowler passed away on May 28, 2021. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Miguel) Hurtado, grandchildren: Areka, Mykel and Gaebriel, and five siblings: Rita, Ann, Paul, Chris and John Mike. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and her parents: John and Fae Davis.
Laura was known for her cooking and always had enough for everyone. She learned how to cook for a crowd early on and that stayed with her through the years. She was a lover of animals, even ones she was allergic to, and had sent many photos of the critters in her yard to friends and family over the years. Friends knew her as a kind and loving soul. Those who knew her well also knew how fiercely independent and fiery she was.
Laura lived by her own rules and left this life the same way. Three weeks is all the time she was granted after the cancer diagnosis, but she would not have wanted it any other way. Although she left us too soon, we take comfort in knowing she is not suffering any longer.
She didn't want a funeral or service. In fact, she didn't want an obituary either but much like her mother, her daughter also lives by her own rules and decided otherwise. A private celebration of life will be held by her immediate family.
A heartfelt thank you to ThedaCare Appleton and all the nurses and doctors, as well as Hospice, for all the love you showed to Laura and Sandy. A special thank you as well to Donna Karcz and Jeff Jonas of Star Campsite for everything you've done for Laura over the years. We appreciate you.
