Marion Catherine Schumacher, age 96, of Neenah, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 6, 2022, at Valley VNA with her family by her side. Marion was born in the Town of Grand Chute on October 23, 1925, to the late Joseph and Minnie (Hooyman) Weyenberg. Marion had a knack for retaining knowledge. As a child, while walking to elementary school, she learned to recite the alphabet--backwards. It took little coaxing to get her to demonstrate this skill, even into her later years. She could go head-to-head with the best on Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Her talent with words would serve her well in her future pursuits. She worked for many years as a secretary for area businesses; Miller Electric, Appleton Coated Paper, and Memorial Florists and Greenhouses. She also worked as a floral designer for Riverside Florist.
On June 6, 1950, Marion was united in marriage to Ray Schumacher at St. Therese Catholic Church, Appleton. The couple enjoyed 50 years together until Ray passed in 2000. She was very active at St. Therese Catholic Church and was a member of the Christian Mothers for many years. Marion was an excellent seamstress who made many dresses (including her own wedding dress), coats, play clothes, and dress clothes for her two girls and granddaughters throughout the years. She also enjoyed knitting, playing (and often, winning) bingo, and going for rides on the rickshaw at Valley VNA.
Marion will be missed by her daughter, Susan (Paul) Ruthven, Neenah; son-in-law, Paul Day; four grandchildren: Megan, Rilen, Ben (Sara) – and their children Olivia and Liam, and Emily (Danny); 2 sisters: Florus Schumacher, and Marlene Sutheimer; brother-in-law Jim (Donna) Schumacher; and 2 sisters-in-law, Katherine Schumacher and Leona Schumacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Ann Day, sister and brother-in-law Lucille and Donald Jacobs, brothers Joseph, William, and Daniel, brother-in-law Melvin Suthheimer, brothers and sisters-in-law; Peter and Betty Schumacher, Clarence and Therese Schumacher, Harold and Germaine Schumacher, Joseph and Mary Schumacher, Maurice Schumacher, Eugene and Eleanor Schumacher, Marvin Schumacher and John Schumacher, sisters and brothers-in-law; Rita and Kenneth Hoffman, Mildred and Robert Huss.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, May 13th, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 620 Division St. Neenah. Friends may visit at the church on Friday from 9:30 am until 10:45 am. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Valley VNA.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Valley VNA for their compassionate care and unwavering support of Marion.
