Obituary

Mary Ann Kuper “Bon-Bon”, age 88, of Appleton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, April 12, 2022, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.  Mary Ann was born in Summit, New Jersey on September 25, 1933, to the late Louis and Angela (Principal) Bontempo. Following graduation from high school, Mary Ann attended the University of Miami, Florida, where she met and fell in love with Donald Kuper or as Mary Ann would say “securing her MRS. Degree”. On September 19, 1953, she and Don were married in Summit, New Jersey.  The couple resided in New Jersey where they welcomed their oldest Stephen into the world followed by their first daughter Betty. They then spent a short period in New Orleans where their late son, Danny, as well as their second daughter Jen were born and subsequently returned to New Jersey to embrace the birth of Karen. Don and Mary Ann made a home for themselves in Appleton, Wisconsin in 1967 and soon completed their family with their youngest daughter, Melissa. Don and Mary Ann enjoyed 53 years together until his passing in 2006.

Mary Ann extended her love for children by opening her home and heart to them. She provided support and stretched her compassion beyond her own children with her daily care services. She enjoyed enriching her faith through her local Bible study group, reading and exchanging novels, and playing in her bridge club. St. Augustine, Florida became a second home to her and her family during the winter months. She spent time walking on Crescent Beach, collecting seashells, and making long lasting friendships with the people of Summer House. Mary Ann had quite the green thumb and an affinity towards food. She was especially well known for her signature coral lipstick and her Italian sauce with meatballs, which she coined as a “Bucket of Love.” Nani, as her grandchildren referred to her, enjoyed cheering on her favorite football teams every weekend including her alma mater The Miami Hurricanes. She is celebrated for her enchanting spirit and loving nature.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, son Stephen Kuper and her four daughters, Betty Miller (Jeff), Jen Snell (Jeff), Karen Umland (Rick), Melissa Snyder (Tim Newman); Her grandchildren Alec and Sofia Miller, Abby (Rushi Patel) and Jon Snell, Ryan (Erin) VanHammond, Phil VanHammond (Bruce Ross) and Grace Umland, Joe and Kate Snyder; and her great-grandchildren Camryn, Ayana, and Jaxson Vanhammond.

Mary Ann was preceded by her infant son Daniel and her husband Donald.
