Nona I. Peterson nee Ballard, age 96, of Appleton, passed away on September 26, 2021 at the Landings of Kaukauna. She was born to the late J Earl and Nora (Krenkel) Ballard on May 14, 1925. Nona married Russell Peterson on June 17, 1950 in Appleton. She graduated from Appleton Senior High School in 1943 and attended Bowlby’s Business College. Nona was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Zenith Temple #31 of the Pythian Sisters of Appleton, served as Grand Chief of Pythian Sisters of Wisconsin, a former member of Chaminade Chorus, and sang with the Caroliers of Appleton. She worked for 18 years at Marshall Fields (Gimbels) until her retirement. Nona enjoyed attending her coffee group at Angels Restaurant, doing daily crossword puzzles, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nona is survived by her children: Kathryn Kappell and Mark (Ann) Peterson; her grandchildren: Justine (Gary) McGuire, Lynette Gorman, Jason Peterson, and Jamie Vaughn; her great grandchildren: Megan and Dylan McGuire and Sierra and Cora Jean Gorman; sisters: LaVahn Miles, Jean Johnson and Carol Pfefferkorn; sister-in-law Jean Nielsen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Russell Peterson; sister Arlene Maves; and special friend Russell Dougherty.
Per Nona’s wishes a private family service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choosing in Nona’s name.
