Our loving mother, Norma J. Vande Walle, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 7th, 2021. Norma was born in Hurley, WI on July 5, 1935 to the late William and Frances (O’Keefe) Liebergen. In 1955, she was united in marriage to Donald R. Vande Walle Sr. The couple enjoyed 52 years together until Donald’s passing in 2007. Norma and Don raised a cherished family of 5 sons. Together, she and Don owned and operated Mehlberg’s Bakery, their family business in Shawano from 1974 to 1988. They enjoyed creating delicious treats and took great pride in providing the best quality bakery possible. In 1988, Norma and Don moved to Appleton to begin their new family adventure, Vande Walle’s Candies. They were proud to carry on their family philosophy of crafting high quality, handmade chocolates and confections. These values and traditions are carried on by their family today. Norma helped out in every aspect of the new business and managed the retail store for many years. She continued to work part time at Vande Walle’s Candies right up to the time of her passing.
Norma was a dedicated wife and mother first and foremost. She truly treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every single moment she spent with them. These wonderful moments were most often spent playing cards and games on “Family Game Night” with good food, many laughs and great conversation. She was a life-long card player and especially loved playing Bridge and Sheepshead. Norma was a wonderful cook, loved to sew and enjoyed traveling. Most of all, she loved her family and instilled in her sons strong values that have served them well. Norma was a longtime member at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Greenville.
Norma has left an incredible legacy to her family: kind hearts, unconditional love and deep faith. She is survived by 4 of her sons: Donald (Kim) Vande Walle Jr., Appleton, Steve (Tess) Vande Walle, Appleton, Thomas (Sue) Vande Walle, Greenville, and Jay (Dawn) Vande Walle, Appleton; daughter-in-law, Mary Vande Walle, De Pere; 13 grandchildren: Megan, Amy, Jack, Brittni (Manuel), Nathan (Janelle), David (Kara), Sara (Jeff), Elizabeth, Jacob, Joseph, Lauren, and Matthew; 3 great grandchildren: Lincoln, Mary, and John; 2 brothers: David Liebergen, Janesville and Jim (Darlene) Liebergen, Suamico.
