We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel
Pauline Anne Stein (nee Bauer) “Polly” was born on November 26, 1929 in Appleton, Wisconsin to Max and Gladys Bauer. She passed August 29, 2022. The third of five children, she was pre-deceased by her three brothers, Fred, Richard, and Robert, and is survived by her younger sister Sister Maxine Bauer SSND. In September of 1953 Polly married John D. Stein and together they enjoyed 45 years of a wonderful marriage centered on family. John preceded Polly in death in 1998.
Polly grew up and lived in the Fox Valley until the very last years of her life. She attended the St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Fond du Lac and worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and Theda Care Regional Hospital (formerly Appleton Medical Center). She volunteered with the Visiting Nurses Association, at the Theda Care Regional Hospital and other community organizations in the Appleton area.
Polly is survived by her sons Dan Stein (Susan) of Madison, WI, Paul Stein (Rhonda) of Indian Rocks Beach, FL, and David (Joan) of Portland, OR as well as daughter Ellen Fuller (Jeff) of Brookfield, WI. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jack Fuller, Caitlin Fuller, Emily McKiddy, Heidi Stein, Chelsea Stein, Olivia Stein and Eleanor Stein and three great grand children: Annabelle and Colton McKiddy and Amelia Fuller.
Polly was an avid and proficient golfer and enjoyed many years of golf and socializing at Riverview Country Club and during winters in Scottsdale. In 45 years, she never took a “gimme” and never gave one even as she golfed into her 80’s, (and she never played “winter rules!”). She was a treasure to her children and grandchildren, giving the gift of travel as family, yielding many wonderful memories.
A special thanks to Sylvia, Jolene and the entire staff at Dickson Hollow and Brighton Hospice for the exquisite and attentive care provided to Polly throughout her stay at Dickson Hollow. A private service for immediate family is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Alzheimers Association Wisconsin Chapter are appreciated, 620 S 76th St, Milwaukee, WI 53214, (414) 479-8800. Please see BTLFUNERAL.com for more information.
See you later alligator…..
