Richard M. King “Dick”, age 81, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Dick was born on March 1st, 1940 in Appleton to the late Peter L. and Alice (Prasher) King. He graduated at Appleton High School with the class of 1958 where he lettered in three sports. He earned a football scholarship to St. Norbert College in DePere, but unfortunately because of a serious knee injury his first year, his dream of playing football would come to an end.
He was united in marriage to Terry Theiss at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton on June 21st, 1957. Dick worked as an inside sales person and purchasing agent at Universal Paper, Badger Northland, and Whitaker-Carpenter. He loved playing golf and cheering for all the Wisconsin teams. He taught himself how to play guitar, and he enjoyed leading songs around family campfires at Pelican Lake. For many years he coached the Kimberly Soccer Club and won a state championship. After that, he was instrumental in soccer becoming a high school sport in Kimberly.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Terry, Appleton; 5 children: David (Amy) King, Kari Farley, Jeffery R. King, Katie Wydeven, and JP (Jodi) King, all of Appleton; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers-in-law: John Theiss and Richard Theiss; and sister-in-law Trudy Kemps. He is further survived by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Judith, and 2 brothers: Peter and Daniel.
A memorial service will take place at 11 am on Tuesday, October 5th at the Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 9:30 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pillars – 605 Hancock St., Appleton, WI 54911.
