February 24, 1935 ~ October 7, 2021 (age 86)

Obituary

Richard "Dick" Walter Miller, age 86, of Milwaukee, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Century Oaks Assisted Living Center in Appleton, WI.  He was born to the late George and Harriet (Seroka) Miller in Milwaukee on February 24, 1935.  He married the love of his life, Alice V. Spitza, on April 12, 1958, in Honolulu, Hawaii where he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957-1959.

Dick was the epitome of strength, a Marine through and through.  He was by his wife’s side for 54 years, raising seven children, fifteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.  He could light up a room or a parade route as Santa Claus or “Gus the Gorilla” which he was passionate about for 35 years.  He loved children and made everyone laugh and giggle.  He would never be found without a hanky, a tub of licorice, and a song ready to be sung. Dick enjoyed dark chocolate, cashews, watching WWE Wrestling and making countless dad jokes.  He was extremely proud to have donated over 70 gallons of blood to the Blood Center of Southeastern Wisconsin where he also volunteered many hours. As a devout Catholic, his greatest pride and joy was his family. His children are beyond blessed with the faith-based foundation that he instilled in them.

Richard is survived by his children: Reverend Steven Miller of Waupun, WI, Mary (Paul) Witt of Eagle, CO, Jon (Chris) Miller of Kaukauna, WI, Jo (John) Passet of Sahuarita, AZ, Geri Hastings of Pardeeville, WI and Ann (Scott) Erenheim of Hamilton, GA; his grandchildren Erin (Wil) Baskin, Kristin (Eric) Brooks, Jordan (Hannah) Miller, Molly (Jeff) Rubel, Christopher Passet, Alexundria (Carlton Anderson) Miller, Jack Hastings, Jason (Allison) Miller, Jennifer (Cody) Heffer, Jared Miller, Merquiades McLellan, Benjamin Witt, Richard Hastings, David Witt and Sebastian Witt; eight great-grandchildren; siblings: Dorothy (late Rudy) Unger, Tom (late Kathy) Miller, Buck (Chris) Miller and Jim (Pat) Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dick is preceded in death by his wife Alice V. Miller, his daughter Teri A. Miller; his parents, and siblings Donald Miller, Marilyn (Stanley) Urbaniak, and Nancy (Ken) Block.

Dick and his wife Alice will be interred at Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI. Donations in memory of Dick may be made to The Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin, 638 N 18th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53233 (formally known as The Blood Center of Southeastern WI).
