APPLETON - Robert L. "Bob" Rechner, Jr., age 86, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2020 with his wife, Mary Jane, at his side.  Bob was born in Appleton, WI on November 9, 1933 and was the son of the late Robert L. and Mary (Plank) Rechner.

Bob attended St. Joseph Grade School in Appleton and St. Mary High School in Menasha.  After graduating from Lawrence University in 1955 with a degree in Geology and completing the U.S. Air Force ROTC program, he was married to Mary Jane Van Weele on October 15, 1955. He was then commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and served two years in Lakenheath, England.  After returning from England, Bob went to work for the George Banta Co. and had a successful 37-year career as a service director.

Bob was a great family man and had a deep Catholic faith, which carried him throughout his life.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, DIY (doing many "projects" over the years), military history, military marching music, and many sports. Especially the Packers and Badgers.  He was particularly interested in keeping up with his children's and grandchildren's sporting events over the years.  He also loved being at the cabin on Hodstradt Lake in Lake Tomahawk, WI.

Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jane, along with their children Joe (Debbie) Charlotte, NC, son-in-law Jeff Drew (Julie dec. 2019) Eden Prairie, MN, Jim (Kathy) Appleton, WI, Jeff (Jill) Neenah, WI, and Jan (Tammy) Waukesha, WI; grandchildren, Taylor, Meg, Ben (Megan), JJ, Jenny, John, Quinn, Matthew, Stephanie, and Zachary.  He is also survived by his sister Tottie Oudenhoven (Tom dec. 2014) and brothers Tony (Marcia), Paul (Patty), and Mark (Theresa).

He was preceded in death by his daughter Julie, his parents Robert L. and Mary (Plank), and his brother Joe.

A private funeral mass will be held at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Bob's family would like to extend a special thank you to all his caregivers at both St. Elizabeth's Hospital and Brewster Village.
