Rudolf F ('Rudy') Kropf

January 18, 1923 ~ May 30, 2022 (age 99)

Rudolf F. Kropf (Rudy), age 99, peacefully left his failing earthly body behind on May 30, 2022, surrounded by family.

Rudy was born January 18, 1923 in Hannover, Germany to Ludwig and Auguste Kropf. He was only 12 years old when his father died, and he went into an apprenticeship to become a tailor so he could support his sister and disabled mother. When he came of age, he was drafted into the German army, where he was wounded in the Balkans. After the war ended, he met the love of his life, Sophie, and they were married April

14, 1950. In 1957, Rudy and Sophie, along with their young daughter, emigrated to Neenah after accepting a job offer with Lohse Exclusive Tailors. In the early 70's, Rudy and Sophie moved to Appleton, where Rudy worked at Prange's and later its successor, Younkers, before retiring.

Rudy led an active life boating and RV touring with life-long friends Kurt and Eva Ostermeier, skiing well into his 80's and playing tennis until he was 95, when an injury forced his withdrawal from his most-loved sport. He took great pride in being the Fox Valley Tennis Club's oldest playing member.

In addition to being a hard-working and devoted family man, he loved to play and was usually the first to arrive at a party and the last to leave, good-naturedly teasing all his friends —he only teased people he liked, and he liked most people.

A great love in Rudy's life was his adopted country. He often spoke about what a great country America is, and how good this country and its people have been to him - a sentiment instilled in his family.

Rudy leaves behind Sophie, his loving wife of 72 years; son Michael (Mike); daughter Sonja (Sunny); son-in-law Wes Howell; granddaughters Mary and Kristina; step granddaughters Stephanie (Eric Petersen) and Elizabeth (Rick Scotson); bonus sons Peter Ostermeier (Margaux Oliver) and Mark Ostermeier (Laurel); and several nieces and nephews.

The family thanks the wonderful staff at Touchmark for their tender and loving care throughout his tenure there, and especially his last days.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Touchmark, 2601 Touchmark Drive, Appleton.
