Verla (Krueger) Koerner age 88, of Appleton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday December 26, 2020 due to complications of Covid-19. Verla was born on December 3, 1932 in Town of Center. She married Robert W. Koerner on April 18, 1953.
Verla is survived by her five children: Sandy (Roger) Buettner, Sharon (Ron) Messinesse, Gary (Penny) Koerner, Susan (Dan) Anderson and Glenn (Angie) Koerner; grandchildren: Robert (Shanna) Buettner, Susan (Joe) Musleh, Samantha (Ben) Weyenberg, Tim Geenen Jr., James Geenen, Whitnee Koerner, Brent Koerner, Dan (Mira) Anderson Jr., Matthew (fiance Gabrielle Lara) Anderson, Paige (fiance Brenden Berlin) Zarate and Austin Zarate; great grandchildren: Harrison, Corbin, Amelia, Claire, Juliette, Theo, Abbey, Derek, Annabelle, Agnes and Aurora; she is also survived by a sister Pauline Buss.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, 4 brothers and 5 sisters; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
In her early years Verla enjoyed camping with family and friends and square dancing with her husband Robert. She loved to volunteer her time. Verla held a special place in her heart for Veterans and the sacrifices they’ve made. She wanted to give back and volunteered for over 25 years at the Veterans Administration Appleton office. Additionally, she was part of the quilters group at Grace Lutheran Church and a devoted volunteer with Pillars of Appleton for over 10 years. She truly enjoyed being with others and doing what she could to make a positive impact.
Due to Covid-19 a private funeral service for immediate family will take place at Grace Lutheran Church in Appleton with Rev. Dan Luett officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
